The 2015 racing season has been much anticipated…December last year saw many hours pass by on the mountain bike in what we crazy cyclists refer to as base miles….it’s all about the base after all.

This year,I have teamed up on tandem with Juanita Venter from Centurion, a World Time Trial champ in her age category, a potent and well respected elite pro road racer in South Africa.

We are targeting a number of road classics this year, including the South African Road championships and the Argus Cycle Tour.

It’s always a good thing to stretch the legs with a few races in order to get the engine revving at full taps, and we launched the tandem into action at this year’s Value Logistics Fast One race in Meyerton, Gauteng.

The first race of the season is a sneak preview to one’s form…it allows one to eyeball your competition, for them to eyeball you back…and essentially to see what the racing legs can do in anger after hours of intense preparation..

With a world time trial champ wanting to come past me on the same bike, we had little choice but to time trial to the finish line! It was  a wonderful experience to come home in 1st place…not in the mixed tandem category, but overall!

This week we head up to Nelspruit to race around Mbombela stadium in search of those elusive stripes that I would so love emblazoned across my racing shirt…SA road champs!

Keep you on 2015
